'Aphorisms'
I am nothing more than a platitude
Bleeding brushstrokes of banal
Cliché is my form of correct
More often than not
And melancholy is my heartbeat
While walking to the rhythm of my own
Earthen and nostalgic beat
The rhetorical device of the
Voice between my ears is
Poetic prose stitched of
Happy thoughts that struggle
In their swimming
On and on and on
I am nothing more than a girl
Breathing static waves of
Discomfort and surfing on the
Tidal wave of glowing
Beating
Overheating
Sunshine and festering heartbreak
I fly as a feather
Meek and weightless to gull that
Blows me back
And forth
In and up and down and around
The point on a page
I flirt over the River and drift
On into the woods
To see if my peripheral place
Is waiting there for me
I am everything of a cliché
As a story without an ending
Tells best
The banal of not providing the answer
Is the wonder of being a girl
Next door
Down the road
Singing the anthem of the universal
Universal platitudes
That beat on to the cadence
Of my soul
